The Charlotte Mason Approach To Christian Education in North Mississippi

– A Living Education –

Ambleside School of Hernando

A Living Education Rooted in Truth, Beauty, and Goodness

Life should be all living, and not merely a tedious passing of time; not all doing or all feeling or all thinking—the strain would be too great—but, all living; that is to say, we should be in touch wherever we go, whatever we hear, whatever we see, with some manner of vital interest. The question is not—how much does the youth know when he has finished his education—but how much does he care?

– CHARLOTTE M. MASON –

“After years of hoping for a true Charlotte Mason school, finding Ambleside of Hernando feels like a dream come true.”

– Whitley Rives

“Ambleside Hernando is unlike any school I have ever experienced. As a parent, I’ve never seen children so alive with wonder and joy in learning. At ASH, education isn’t just about textbooks—it’s about forming habits of character, cultivating curiosity, and feeding the soul with living ideas. It’s a beautiful expression of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, where children are treated as persons and education becomes a lifelong feast.”

– Christopher Sykes

An Ambleside Education

Knowingly or not, the educational practice of every teacher is based upon a philosophy of education. Sometimes this philosophy is explicitly recognized. More often than not, it is merely implied by the teacher’s classroom practices.

At Ambleside, we are very intentional in everything we do. We believe that the 19th century British educator, Charlotte Mason got it right. Thus, we seek to consistently apply her principles and methods. Foundational is the conviction that “Children are Born Persons” and that “Education is an Atmosphere, a Discipline, a Life.”
